Can you afford not to have a mobile-friendly website?
Just a year since Google rolled out its algorithm changes to mobile ranking in searches, the search engine giant has announced yet another "update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly."
My non-mobile website didn't suffer much last time, why should I listen now?
The main reason for the update so soon after the initial one is the fact that the number of people using mobile devices to access their media has grown and is still growing at a phenomenal rate. Currently 40% of people use mobile devices to access their media. If your website isn't mobile friendly, both your current and future users are going to have difficulty accessing it in the future.
Non-mobile websites are frequently disappearing from search results and if Google continues to make more updates to its algorithm non-mobile websites will continue to be pushed further back in search result pages.
Can I afford not to have a mobile-friendly website?
In the short term it might seem like a lot of money to invest to have a well designed, fully functional, mobile-friendly website. But in the long-term it will prove to be a worthwhile investment. Why? Because Google search on mobile recently surpassed search on desktop, which means people are using their phones more than their computer to search on Google. If you want your website to be visible to an increasing mobile audience then having a mobile-friendly website is the best investment you can make.
